Receipt printers typically use impact or thermal printing mechanisms, but some newer models use inkjet technology. Thermal and inkjet printers offer high-speed, quiet operation and often allow multi-color printing, either through dual heat settings or multiple ink cartridges. Impact printers can print onto carbonless (NCR) multi-part paper, allowing journal receipts to be printed and automatically rolled onto a spool inside the printer for audit purposes.
